bring you love, baby, i can bring my pain,

Luke was glad he didn’t waste any time waiting to see if Asha would eventually show up before putting up some fliers with her missing. The cat was the first soul he met coming in Belgrade. He found her just before he got the job at the shelter. She was in a terrible condition, starving, weak and limping, but some patience brought her back to the healthy kitty she was today. He didn’t care if they were allowed pets in the dorms or not. He believed none of his flat mates would tell on him. And if they would do that, he would make sure to cause hell in their lives, as long as they live with him.

He was already out of the shower four minutes after a girl named Aoife called to say that she found Asha. It was around 11 a.m., but Luke was still in bed when that happened. He got in late last night, as usual, and classes would start in the afternoon. He wouldn’t have woken up if they were in the morning, but it worked out well this way. He got the first pair of jeans he could find on him, threw a black t-shirt on, got his keys and went out the door while running a hand through his hair when passing by the mirror on the wall next to the exit door.

This Aoife sounded like she’s a stuck-up kind of girl, and hearing where she lives only confirmed that to Luke. She was a rick spoiled girl. But she found his cat, and that was all that mattered in that moment for Luke. His behavior was docile enough when it involved his pet; or any other animal from the shelter. While he treated all of them with the same attention and care, Ashe grew on him a lot.

He got to the place he needed to go, and the doorman let him in. Shit, the place was huge. He wondered why would anyone live in such a big place. Yeah, he understood luxury and the need for it, but he didn’t see the need for big places. You can have luxury – if you have the money – in a normal house too. Who uses all this space?

He walked through the garden towards what seemed to be the main door of the house, not actually sure how he will find this girl.

Who knew that such a sweet little cat would belong to such a rude, lazy boy? At least, that was her first impression of the person she had spoken to over the phone. Eleven o’clock in the morning, and he had still been in bed when she had called to answer his poster. She thought she had been rather nice to wait until a more than decent hour to call, but you wouldn’t know it from the way he had snapped at her on the phone... all because she thought she might have taken down the phone number wrong. Really, the audacity of the lad!

Aoife sat cross-legged on her bed, stroking the mottled fur of the tortoiseshell cat which lay in a twisted ball on her lap purring. She really was such a sweet animal, and the boy was lucky that she had seen the missing poster at all, or else she would have just kept the cat herself. But, propriety and all that. She had been raised to do the “right” thing in these situations, though she wasn’t feeling particularly charitable after hearing the owner’s tone over the phone. Half of her wondered if the cat had run away on purpose.

There was a sudden, soft buzz, and both cat and girl twisted to look at the vibrating iPhone at the foot of the bed. The blonde reached over to take the phone, careful not to disturb the lounging cat too much, and read the text message from the doorman informing her that Luke Jackson was being sent up. “Oh well, Kitty,” Aoife pouted in her thick Irish-English accent as she gently moved the cat from her lap onto the bed. “Looks like your person has arrived.” The cat immediately attempted to climb back onto her, and the girl smiled before gently pushing her away and standing up. “You wait here.” She gave the cat a last scratch on the head, watching as it flopped down onto her comforter and rolled to it’s back, still purring, before crossing to her bedroom door and leaving the room.

Through the hall and down the large, curved staircase to the foyer, Aoife walked through the large penthouse until she reached the main door. She paused there to check herself in the gold framed mirror beside the double oak doors, smoothing the front of her white and black splatter print dress before opening the door. Her stormy blue eyes found the dark haired boy walking toward her and a brow raised in mild interest. To be completely honest, she hadn’t given much thought to his appearance after their phone conversation, but she certainly was now. He was a rather beautiful boy, even if he was a bit plainly dressed in a cheap black t-shirt and blue jeans.

“And you would be Luke?” She questioned, knowing perfectly well he was. They didn’t pay the doorman to let vagrants and general riff to just slip in willy nilly, and his arrival had already been mentioned to her. But, formalities and such -- she had to greet him somehow, and she supposed she had been pleasant enough in her tone despite the slight disappointment. Even in the short day and a half since she’d found the cat on her doorstep, Aoife had grown a bit attached to Kitty and was rather reluctant to pass her on to her owner. Pity she couldn’t have just been a stray...

bring you love, baby, i can bring my pain,

Before he could give the place another look - either an impressed one or a disapproving one - the main door opened and a girl stepped in its place. Luke's eye went over her, with a straight face, but not trying to hide the fact that his gaze went from her legs to her face, passing quickly over her body. It was a habit, really, but it didn't mean he didn't like what he was seeing. She had blonde locks and blue eyes, and somehow, Luke found it perfectly in tone with the attitude she gave through the phone and from the place she was living in. Rich spoiled girls were suppose to be perfection like this.

She spoke then, same voice from the phone. He gave a charming sweet grin, tilting his head a bit. "Yes, I am." eye piercing hers. She might've been a spoiled stuck up girl, but he didn't mind that for what he was looking for in women. He could go over that, if a woman proved to be more pleasurable in other things. Attitude was a problem in relationships, something that Luke wasn't fond of.

"Is she okay?" his tone quickly changed when he got over the moment of seeing the attractive girl and his mind went to one of the feminine souls that he actually loved in his life. The other two were his mother and his sister, the last one mostly having the impression that he hated her. But that was another story and some other stressful thoughts and he wasn't in the mood to get all regretful for his attitude towards his family. 'It was the right decision.'

He made a few steps towards the door frame and the girl that was standing there, looking a bit around. "Where is she?" he really wanted to see his cat in this moment, to see that she was OK, that it was really her. Because he could've been mistaken in the heat of the moment thinking that he found her. His eyes went to the blonde in front of him again.

The girl could nearly feel the way this boy’s eyes ran up and down her body, but she couldn’t say she really cared. These things happened, after all. At least, they happened to her... quite frequently. But, they did linger a bit longer than necessary, and she was half tempted to ask if he wanted her to do a pirouette or something. There was no need, though. He’d soon be getting a good view of her backside when she led him into the house. He could eat his heart out, for all she cared, and the smirk she returned to his, rather charming, grin said as much.

The pretty boy’s tone changed rather quickly, though, and Aoife pouted a little on the inside. “She’s perfectly fine,” the girl answered with a hint of reproach. Hadn’t she told him that over the phone just over a half hour ago? It was a little insulting that he might think her so incapable that she couldn’t take care of a cat for a mere half hour, especially after the poor thing had been in her care for the better part of a day and a half. Still, no matter how wounding that thought was, she couldn’t help but find his worry rather endearing. The boy sincerely loved his cat, and if that wasn’t just darling, then she didn’t know what else was.

Adapting a sweet smile to her face, Aoife stepped back and opened the door wide, motioning for him to come inside. “She is upstairs in my bedroom,” she answered him as she closed the door behind them. “This way.” Aoife beckoned him to follow as she made a girlish skip across the dark, hardwood flooring toward the large, curved staircase which led up to the second floor. She stopped with a hand on the banister and glanced over her shoulder to make sure he was following before continuing up the stairs and down the long hall toward her room. She stopped at her bedroom door and opened it slowly, peering inside to make sure the cat wasn’t right there and about to dart out between their legs.

But, there she was, still sprawled out happily on the pink and white striped comforter of her bed like she owned it. Too bad for her, she could have owned it if this Luke boy hadn’t come to claim her. She could have owned the whole penthouse. Pity... But, Aoife would have felt terribly guilty keeping a boy from his cat, especially now that she had seen the worry in his gorgeous, dark eyes. “Kitty, look who’s here!” Aoife announced as she stepped into her her, admittedly very girly, room and skipped over to sit beside the just stirring cat. She gave the animal a scratch behind its cheek with her manicured nails which brought about a steady purr as they both looked to the doorway where Luke had been left, and Aoife once again felt that strong reluctance to see her go.

Life could be so unfair.

bring you love, baby, i can bring my pain,

The smirk she gave in return to his leering only made him think of some possible opportunities he would have with this girl. Granted, he felt from only seeing her now and from the little talk on the phone that she could be really strong headed. But if it works, it wouldn’t be the first time he had his way with a girl like her.

He stepped inside the house with her hand invitation and followed her up the stairs, again not bothering to hide that his eyes were on her the whole way up. He stopped in the door of her bedroom, while she went in to her bed. He put on an amused smile while his eyes wondered for a moment around the room.

’Of, course, the bedroom of a princess, I wouldn’t expect less.’

But then his eyes stopped on the bed and his whole expression changed into one of total relief, and he let out a silent sigh, while he stepped inside the room and went near the bed, going down on one knee at its foot, leaning on the bed and propping his arms on the sheets.”Come here, Asha.” While he knew cats weren’t the most affectionate-showing kind of animals, he knew his cat would at least recognize him. The kitty moved a bit towards his hands, and rubbed her little head along his arms. ”Good girl.” his eyes went even softer, as he warmly smiled at his pet, a whole-faced smile, rubbing her ear and leaning his head closer so his nose would touch Asha’s head.

Sometimes, he felt stupid for how much love he had for his cat. Or even from the animals from the shelter. But as all these years, he bottled up emotions that he didn’t want to show towards his family, they were bound to escape at some point. And he was relieved that the animals were there to take that blow.

His head leaned a bit on one side, while still close to the cat, so he can raise his eyes up to the girl. ”Thank you.” he gave a small smile, while raising his head a bit, to prop his head in one palm, as the other hand was lightly petting the cat. ”Nice place.” his head gestured a bit around. ”Could’ve used a bit more pink though.” His eyes fixed hers while a smirk appeared on his face. ”Do you often invite guys in your bedroom, or was this a hint for me?” After seeing that Asha was safe and sound, he remembered that they weren’t alone in their room, where he can spoil her and give her all his attention. And he was never comfortable to show emotions around others. So instead, he focused on his other interests. Like, in this case, attractive girls.

Aoife absolutely thrived on the attention of others. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that she had been treated as if she could do no wrong since the moment of her birth, or maybe it was simply part of her natural nature -- whatever the case, the Aspen Heiress loved nothing more than to be the center of attention. It was no different today, and, though she didn’t glance back again as she made her way up the stair and down the hall, she could feel this boy’s eyes following her the whole way to her bedroom door.

With his attention on her backside, she made sure to keep her posture straight and gave a little extra attention to the sway of her hips. He could get any idea he wanted off of her little show, but all she cared was that he fed her ego with his dark, hungry gaze. She was teasing, yes... But it could be so fun, especially when they got to the part where she told him “no”. Considering they were headed to her bedroom, she would wager that part was coming fairly soon.

As she sat on her bed beside the boy’s pretty little cat, Aoife watch Luke glance around as he stepped into the room. Sure, the room was girly -- all pink and white, with subtle accents of gold -- but, it was very much ”her”. And then his eyes settled on the cat, and something about the immediate way his expression switched to relief and he sank to the floor in front of the bed was absolutely heart-melting. He girl’s head tilted and she was smiling at the adorable exchange as the cat inched toward him and began rubbing herself against his arms. There really was no denying it -- either by the way the boy’s demeanor went pillowy soft at the site of the cat, or the cat’s immediate response to his call -- this was definitely his cat.

He turned his eyes up to her and she offered him a dazzling smile at his thanks, still a little enamored by the whole cat-boy bonding she’d witnessed. But then he went on to make a slightly sarcastic remark about her room, and she couldn’t help but bite back a little curtly. “I’ll pass that on to my decorator.” She didn’t have a decorator, but he likely didn’t know that and her tone was enough to tell him she couldn’t care less about his opinions. The smirk he fixed her with, though, had the corners of her mouth pulling in an amused smile, and she raised a mocking brow at his next words.

Oh, the fun part!

“Don’t mistake my morality for charity, Lucas Jackson,” Aoife warned him with a stern purse of her lips as she crossed her legs daintily and laced her fingers over her knee. There was still a bit of a playful shine in her stormy blue eyes, but her posture was giving him a firm “no”.

bring you love, baby, i can bring my pain,

Aoife gave a smile to his thanks and he kept his eyes on her after that. She was a beautiful woman and her whole superior and entitled attitude was something Luke found very interesting. She was that girl in high school every guy wanted to have, the queen of the prom and the one that other more insignificant girl would follow around all day, trying to copy her style. He knew she had all the reasons to act like a spoiled princess, but he briefly wondered why was she. Because not all girls in her position would act like such a stuck up princess.

His eyes went another time around the room, while Asha purred around his arm, and he was randomly petting her back and head, while she mentioned a decorator. He could even picture a younger and more annoying version of Aoife, folding her hands and yelling she wants a pink room with a unicorn in it.

He watched her with interest while she talked and took a firm position that was only meaning to close him out. But Luke wasn’t one to just shrugged and say ‘oh well’ when meeting a hot girl. Oh no. Not even her calling him ‘Lucas’ didn’t turn him away from his thoughts. Granted, she didn’t know he didn’t like it to be called like that.

His eyes stayed on her, but only on her face, for a moment, without saying anything else. His lips were curved into a little smile. ”Even though I don’t need it,” he said, while he got up to his feet, only to sit at the feet of the bed, a fit turned around to face her, while Asha placed herself between the two of them, cleaning her paws slowly and sleepily. ”I wouldn’t say no to some kinds of charity.”

”Do you take in only cats?” he said with a little smirk, curving one corner of his lips. Of course, the girl couldn’t know that he was a fox shifter, but he had half a mind to shift if that would make her softer – that is, if she had that softer part for animals; and from the way she seemed to had treated Asha, she might be that kind.

Aoife held a level stare with the boy. She wasn’t about to shy away like some delicate, blushing flower, not even under those beautiful, dark eyes of his. She was a woman, and a Blake woman at that. She had centuries upon centuries of a respectable Gaelic heritage to live up to, not to mention that strong Dryad pride which ran so deep in her family. One beautiful boy wasn’t going to crumble Aoife Blake’s foundation.

She watched as his eyes went again around her bedroom, no doubt imagining just how a decorator had been demanded to dress the place. The truth was, Aoife had done it all herself. From the painting, to the choice of curtains, and even the furniture and fixtures, she had taken the first week after moving to the American penthouse to get everything just the way she wanted. The girl was aware she put off and heir of one who didn’t life a finger -- which was very much intentional, mind you -- but she had always been raised to work for and earn her luxury. She could have anything she wanted, so long as she accomplished the necessary tasks to do so. That was very much an Irish upbringing, for you.

The smile he fixed her with after her little quip caused her eyes to narrow only slightly, as if all but daring him to say something rude back. There was something entirely playful about her, even in her firmly closed posture, and, in all actuality, Aoife was a little thrilled at the prospect of some cat and mouse game. Since she had been whisked out of Ireland and forced to learn the international trade aspect of the family business over in America, she had been missing this. Back in Londonderry, she had the attention of every boy she knew, and moving to an entirely new country meant leaving that all behind and starting from scratch. Though she played a good game, pretending she was unaffected by the move, Aoife was, honestly, rather homesick.

“There’s soup in the kitchen,” she retorted dryly to his talk of charity, her lips pulling back in a tight smirk. Insinuating he was looking for food handouts was, maybe, a little bit lower of a blow than necessary, but it certainly made a point.

His question gave Aoife a slight pause, to which she tilted her chin curiously. He had asked her if she took in only cats, but it was his smirk which was a little off-putting. She did remember he mentioned that he worked at the local animal shelter when they had been talking on the phone -- was his intention to find another animal for her to take in? That had been something she was considering even before his cat had shown up on her doorstep. An animal companion would certainly help combat the lonely feeling of homesickness a bit. “I’ve only ever taken in cats, but I do like most animals,” she replied a little cautiously, still very curious about the way he was smirking at her. “Why?”

bring you love, baby, i can bring my pain,

Although the general vibe coming from her was clearly one of superiority - maybe seeing him like an annoying stray animal, but not the kind she likes to take in and take care of - there was also something else his fox nose could sense coming from her. He had a little hunch that she actually enjoyed his bluntness and shameless flirting. Even the girls that were offended by whatever he would say or do, deep inside, they would giggle for the attention.

At her little comment about the soup, he chuckled lowly, lowering his eyes for a bit, while both his hand went over the little cat's head, petting her around the ears. "While I actually haven't eaten yet today and as lovely as that sounds, I was thinking of some other types of activities." he left it at that, rising his head with a small smirk at her, keeping her eyes for some moments, while he studied her face, without hiding that he was doing that.

By the way she answered his question and looked at him, she wasn't aware that he was a shifter. Well, it wasn't like he had anymore of a clue about what she was. The only thing he knew for sure was that she wasn't one of his own species.

"Well, if you will ever be interested in adopting, there are a lot of loving souls at the shelter to chose from." he chose to leave his own comments and thoughts on the side for a bit, thinking about the innocent lives he takes care of everyday and deserve proper homes. He would actually get sad and happy every time an animal is adopted. But that was only for his lonely moments and this wasn't the place and situation to get lost in those thoughts. "Or if you prefer, I can be a pretty obedient cute pet." he continued, his face grinning as he bit his lower lip a bit. "I wouldn't mind even the colors in this room." he added, a hand going up a bit to wave around the place.
